Absolute accuracy
along with total flexibility
tools with cartridges of HOLLFELDER-GÜHRING GmbH
The essential difference . . .
Usually cartridges are applied in tools with larger diameters or in tools which require radial and axial adjustment of the insert.
The advantage is a cheaper production of the toolholder which can either be of untempered steel or of aluminium. They are then assembled with cartridges. Potential inaccuracies can be compensated by means of different adjustment systems.
Optimal stability
However cartridges of HOLLFELDER-GÜHRING GmbH are differing considerably from the ISO-DIN cartridges available on the market.
The diameter of the inserts can be adjusted μm-accurately (radial adjustment). Both cartridge and insert remain solidly fixed in the basic holder respectively in the pocket seat during the adjustment operation. This guarantees vibration-free machining and an excellent machining result as far as quality and tool life are concerned. It goes without saying that our standard series corresponds to the dimensions of commercial ISO-DIN cartridges.
Especially in tools made to customer specifications Hollfelder cartridges are applied in different forms, dimensions and with different adjustment systems.
Easy handling
E.g. in complex modular tools when different components can be machined with just one toolholder by only exchanging the cartridges (see picture 3). The adjustment system is chosen individually.
A short summary of the essential advantages for our customers:
 |
easy, µm-accurate adjustability of the inserts |
| |
 |
tight workpiece tolerances can be observed without problems |
| |
 |
non-productive times for adjusting the tools are drastically reduced |
 |
Cartridge and insert always remain clamped during adjustment |
| |
 |
unintended adjustment of the inserts while tightening the straining screw is impossible |
| |
 |
adjusted values on the tool can be realised 1:1 on the workpiece |
 |
The always safe and tight fit with the toolholder results in optimal stability between toolholder and cartridge |
| |
 |
very good surface quality due to vibration-free chip removal |
| |
 |
constant tool life |
 |
no change of the approach angle when adjusting the diameter |
| |
 |
90° shoulders can exactly be achieved |
In this modular type the insert pockets are in the cartridges which are safely fitted in the toolholder. It is necessary to adjust the inser ts axially as well as radially.
In this case our cartridges with double eccentric bolt adjustment for the insert as well as the cartridge are applied. ( Picture 1 and 2 )
Besides the easy handling when adjusting the inserts by means of the eccentric adjustment the advantages are the slim structural shape and thus the low total weight. This is achieved by means of a radially fitted cartridge. The bore holes for the eccentric pin and the clamp screws of the cartridges are intentionally situated at the side averted from chip removal and furthermore they are additionally covered.

This leads to the following advantages :
 |
No edges and pockets in which chips can get caught |
 |
Noise developments due to open bore holes (howling noises) are eliminated |
Like in standard milling cutters the insert can axially be adjusted μmaccurate. The concentricity divergence is compensated by means of the cartridge with eccentric bolt adjustment.
Due to the compact structural shape an enormous number of teeth is also possible here, e.g. Z = 38 at a diameter of 350 mm.

Picture 3
Another possibility to apply cartridges with eccentric bolt adjustment is the machining of sealing surfaces in housings for injection pumps. Extreme tolerances are required as in these surfaces angularity essentially influences the function of the pump. Faced with these high requirements the flexibility of our eccentric bolt adjustment becomes apparent. For that reason it was adapted correspondingly so that a fine adjustment of the relative position can be realised.
Result:
When producing workpieces which require the utmost precision and quality, tools with cartridges from HOLLFELDER-GÜHRING GmbH are always the first choice. Flexibility constitutes a further essential advantage.
